are vector traces considered artwork?

why is tracing looked down upon so much but somehow retracing with vector programs suddenly makes it ok?

i mean, i say this as someone who has been making traced-from-a-cartoon vectored artwork the past few days (no not ponies) and it is fun, but i don't think they're worth uploading. because... they are tracing.

i dunno. thoughts?

(i still won't upload mine bcause there isnt an audience for them in the first place, im just curious the thoughts on it because... i was just thinking about it :'D)
